This is a strong candidate for being your workhorse card, and the intro offer is one of Amex’s best.

Why it made the cut: This is one of the best cards for those who are new to travel credit cards, points, and miles. The annual fee is very low, the sign up bonus is strong, and travel insurance is among the industries best. While we’d like to see the intro bonus return to its previous highs of 100,000 points, if you’re looking to get your first travel rewards card - this one is tough to beat.

Why it made the cut: We love this card. It’s a top tier keeper travel card with all the premium benefits but with a much more manageable fee. One of the best intro bonuses out there and the annual travel credit and anniversary bonus points easily pay for the card. If you’re a frequent traveler this is one of our favorites, especially if you’re looking for a potential alternative to the Amex Platinum.

Notable: 1.5% back on ALL purchases, 3% on dining, 5% back on gas and grocery stores in first 12 months

Why it made the cut: This is a fantastic card for everyone - it’s great for those looking to get a bullet proof first card as well as seasoned credit card holders that want a no fee card with great Chase rewards. For a card that costs $0, it’s hard to beat 3% on dining and 1.5% on all other purchases. We love pairing this card with either the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve so you can redeem your rewards for travel and take advantage of the Sapphire Card’s 1.25X and 1.5X multipliers for Chase Ultimate Reward Points.

Why it made the cut: Exceptional value for those who pay rent - getting 1X back on rent with no transaction fees is hard to beat. Still pretty great value for those who don’t rent. Bilt is the only rewards program offering direct point transfers to American Airlines AAdvantage. The card offers an impressive breadth of benefits for no annual fee and in addition to American Airline has over 13 other transfer partners.
