Getting to South East Asia:

  • Getting to SE Asia is probably going to be your biggest cost. I flew in and out of Singapore via Tokyo on Ana and found it to be a cheap and efficient options

  • Once in SE Asia, flights around that area tend to be very cheap, often as low as USD$50.

Stop 1: Bangkok, Thailand

  • Bangkok is an iconic city and very unique in a lot of ways, but I found it unnecessary to spend time here. I found the beauty of Thailand to be in the smaller cities whereas Bangkok felt like any other large city, obviously with its unique Thai characteristics.

  • If you decide to include this, it will likely be your most expensive city regarding housing, excursions, and food.

  • The best hostel in the city and the one I stayed at was the Mad Monkey Hostel, which I cannot recommend enough.

Stop 2: Phuket, Thailand

  • Phuket is probably the second most common city to visit in Thailand but feels much smaller and less crowded than Bangkok.

  • Phuket has many festivals (such as the half moon festival), ancient cities (such as Big Buddha), and beautiful scenery.

  • Phuket is known for the beaches it has to offer, the cheap food and backpacking options, and the nightlife.

  • A great hostel in the city and where I stayed was the Mad Monkey, but find any hostel with a good review on HostelWorld.

  • There are some cool Airbnbs as well if you are traveling with a group and do not care about meeting people / being alone.

Stop 3: Ko Phi Phi, Thailand

  • You need to take a ferry to and from this island, beware, it’s bumpy.

  • The Phi Phi Islands are an island group in Thailand between the large island of Phuket and the Straits of Malacca coast of Thailand.

  • Phi Phi is one island with no cars and walkable in ~20 minutes

  • There is one amazing 5-star resort called SAii Village, but you need to take a boat taxi to get to the main island, where the entertainment is.

  • The island is famous worldwide for its stunning colorful corals and marine life

Stop 4: Krabi, Thailand

  • Krabi is a small city on the coast of Thailand

  • Its very cheap and has great hostels and even larger resort-style hotels

  • This is a very outdoor city, so be prepared to sweat - check out the tiger temple which is 500+ steps up the mountain

Stop 5: Ko Lanta, Thailand

  • This was a beautiful random find a hostel worker told us about, just a 3-4 shuttle from Krabi.

  • We were the only ones at our beachfront resort, going during the low season (June) is an awesome hack.

  • We found a beach bar where the only people were the owner’s who we hung out and played games with all night.

  • If you have the time, this a cool 1-day trip, to see an even more local town’s unique beauty and charm

Stop 6: Bali

  • This one needs its own guide, Bali has it all.

  • One of the cheapest places you cant rent beachfront Airbnb’s with unique indoor/outdoor spaces

  • There is so much different terrain from beaches to mountains, make sure you alot enough time to stay in each

  • I recommend at least 3 days in Ubud to explore, hike and see beautiful rural country and 3 days in Seminyak beach to enjoy the entertainment and city life

Stop 7: Singapore

  • This one also needs its own guide, Singapore is somewhere you can spend 1-10 days and have a great time.

  • From the Marina Bay Sands to Beautiful scenic art, there is too much to do here, and its expensive…

  • They are one of the strictest Countries in the world, so pay attention to the rules when you arrive

Thailand (1.5 weeks)

  • Phucket (3 days)

  • Ko Phi Phi (2 days)

Bali & Singapore (1.5 weeks)

  • Singapore (4 days)
